Re-Emerge Pavilion – pavilion exploring circular use of construction waste

Re-Emerge is a pavilion developed through a collaboration between the Architectural Association (AA) Emergent Technologies & Design (EmTech) programme and Hassell in London. The project responds to a brief to minimise carbon footprint by working exclusively with reclaimed timber.

Using grade A reclaimed wood pallets, Re-Emerge explores how materials that have completed their first life cycle can be repurposed into innovative structural formations. Generative design, material computation, and large-scale fabrication techniques are integrated from the early design stages to assess environmental impact and construction feasibility.

By rethinking construction waste as a valuable resource, the pavilion demonstrates the structural and spatial potential of reclaimed timber within a circular design framework. Re-Emerge Pavilion received the Architizer A+ Award in the Architecture + Collaboration category.

Developed during Dr. Elif Erdine’s tenure as Programme Director (EmTech Postgraduate Programme) at the Architectural Association.

Full project credits available via the Architectural Association (AA) website.
