CoolNest is a modular community garden pavilion designed to activate waterfront public spaces such as the Doha Corniche. Responding to Doha’s hot, arid climate, the project prioritises shading, passive cooling, evaporation, and microclimate creation through a geometry informed by canopy structures and sikkas.
The pavilion is activated through collective gardening, with plant species selected for low water demand, heat tolerance, and shading performance. A dry misting system supports efficient irrigation, while QR-coded plant tags provide accessible maintenance and seasonal information.
CoolNest is fabricated using 3D printing with recycled PETG (rPETG) in collaboration with AI Build (https://ai-build.com/), enabling lightweight, modular construction and adaptable, site-specific deployment without moulds.
